IT’S HERE! Our 2nd Tuesday Service Project! Community School Food Pantry!!

This week, Boise Metro Rotarians will assemble snack bags for Community Schools (including Garfield Elementary) to distribute to Homeless and Low-Income Students.

This snack bag assembly project can be done in your own home. See instructions in the next paragraph. For those who want a little Rotary fellowship, we already have 4 volunteers signed up (John Biggs, Will Ellsworth, Cahill Jones, and Jeff Larsen). We have room for 2 to 4 more to join us on Tuesday, February 9th at noon on Boise Plaza 5th Floor (1111 W. Jefferson). Remember to respect indoor Covid protocols of mask wearing and social distancing. There is a drop off box in the lobby of the Boise Plaza for finished snack bags that you assembled at home. Or contact Jeff Larsen (208-870-7481 jeffrey.k.larsen@gmail.com) to arrange a pick up.

What is a “snack bag”? This is a convenient grab bag that Community School Coordinators can give to students to supplement their nutritional needs. It consists of 5-6 snack items and a bottle of water. The snack items are a 50%/50% blend of protein oriented and non-protein-oriented items. They are contained in a gallon-size Ziploc bag which the students can reuse for other purposes. (A portion of these students are homeless. So the snack items need to be ready to eat without preparation.)

Snack Bag Ideas
  • Nuts
  • Seeds (pumpkin, sunflower)
  • Dried fruit
  • Protein bars/snack bars/granola bars
  • Tuna pouches (especially if they come with a utensil)
  • Crackers
  • Crackers with dried Peanut Butter or cheese
  • Peanut butter
  • Cookies
  • Beef jerky
  • Popcorn (popped in an individual serving size bag)

Can't make it this week? Consider a financial donation via Venmo for "snack bags" to help underwrite the club's efforts to provide nutritious snacks to the students.
