This week features a field trip to the Lucky Peak Power Plant at the dam! We'll enjoy a tour by Holly Brinkley, who works for the Lucky Peak Power Plant Project. We'll meet there at noon or, if you prefer, we can car pool from Smoky Mountain Pizza, meet there at 11:45. See below for more details about the tour and where to meet.
We need a head count so, if you haven't already, let Janet know by Monday morning. Box lunches will be provided!
One of our Lucky Peak Power Plant staff will accompany each tour group of up to 15 people. Tours start in our Visitor
Center, which has information about the history and pictures of the area, as well as pictures taken during construction of the
power plant. The tour then continues into the power plant itself. Due to the sensitivity of equipment, tour groups are not
permitted in the Control Room (however, it can be viewed through a window).

• The powerhouse is noisy, dark and damp, which some individuals find uncomfortable. There are many stairs to go up and down
(however, an elevator is available, if required). Appropriate clothing and footwear is important, especially around the equipment
and when going up and down long flights of stairs.
Visitor and employee safety is of primary concern when conducting a tour. If tour participants create a safety hazard or an
emergency occurs, the tour will end immediately.
• For security and safety, once the tour is finished, guests must leave the Power Plant compound.
Directions to the power plant:
From Boise, take I-84 East (toward Mountain Home) to Exit 57, Idaho Hwy-21/Gowen Road and turn left onto Gowen Rd/Idaho
Hwy 21 toward Idaho City. Continue to follow ID-21 towards Idaho City approximately 5.5 miles to Discovery Park (just before
Lucky Peak Dam). Turn right just past the Discovery Park entrance onto the SANDY POINT
road. Turn right again at the first access road (by the LUCKY PEAK POWER PLANT sign) and follow to the security gate.
When you get to the security gate, press the call button on the keypad on the right side of the gate to request access (identify
yourself and let the Operator know you are here for a tour). Once the security gate is open, follow the road to the parking lot on
your right just outside the compound gate. A Lucky Peak employee will meet you at the parking lot and escort you into the
compound. Note that cell service is very limited below the dam.
