The new section of the Greenbelt will be completed very soon - just a few last minute touches on the tunnels. Then we'll be able to proceed with our project design and cost estimates - then start selling bricks! In the meantime, our three clubs - Metro, Centennial and Eagle/Garden City have joined up to submit a grant application to the District for $3,700 toward the interpretive sign that will be part of our park. The sign will have information about the 50 year history of the Greenbelt and the monument which is our centerpiece. There are 24 District clubs who have submitted grant applications. We should hear by the end of June.
I know its over a year away, but I couldn't help myself! The deal was too good to pass up! The 2017 Rotary International Convention will be in Atlanta June 10-15. Whenever its held in the US, its no-brainer to try to get there. Rotary International last week announced a HUGE registration discount - but you gotta do it by June 6th (that's TOMORROW!). The registration fee is just $265 per person, then it goes up to $340, then it goes on up to $490 as the date gets closer. You can also reserve a hotel room, no payment necessary. The least expensive one I found was a Hilton at $189/night, very close to the convention center. So we are committed! We're going to make a cross country road trip out of it. Can't wait to get started!
Reminder: our club has been approved to participated in Rotary International's "Open World" program. We will have the honor of hosting SIX Russians from October 7 to the 15th. Our responsibility will be to provide housing and a meaningful program of events and visits in our area. They are said to be interested in "innovation and entrepreneurship". Cornelia is heading up our Committee, please contact her if you are interested in serving on the Planning Committee or being a host family. This is exciting!!
