Our speaker this week will be Aaron Smith, PhD and Senior Engineer at Boise's Shaw Mountain Technologies. He will tell us about the MSM Micropump, described as follows (may need translation!)
The MSM micropump utilizes a heterogenous magnetic field from a diametrically magnetized permanent magnet to locally strain the material nearest to the poles of the magnet. The resulting small cavity follows the poles of the magnet when the magnet is rotated. The MSM micropump captures this motion by placing the material within a microfluidic channel. Fluid from the inlet side of the channel is peristically transported to the outlet using the MSM effect.
Will Fowler - Will was born in Weiser, grew up in Ontario, OR. His undergrad degree in Psychology and Theater comes from College of Idaho, but he has two Masters degrees, one in Fine Arts from University of Missouri and an MBA from NNU. He's been in Rotary for about 4 years in Nampa and Boise downtown. He works for Boise State's Venture College, raising "Angel Funds" for some interesting projects. He and his wife Kate have two children ages 4 and 18 months. His hobbies are the usual Idaho ones - skiing, hiking, biking. Mary, he has a dog - a Maltese named "Bentley". What you don't know about Will is that he was an actor in NYC - but you've probably not seen him on TV. (BTW - his father-in-law is Jim Hogge, our DG)
Dan McCown - Dan was born in Boston, grew up in lots of places - Portland, Boise, St Louis, San Fran, Maine. But he considers Boise to be "home". He earned an aeronautical degree from Embry Riddle in Prescott, AZ. He was a corporate pilot for many years working out San Francisco, but then worked from Hawaiian Airlines until 2003. Then he moved to Boise and started his contracting and real estate business. He and his wife have an adopted son who is ten years old. His hobbies include all the usual Idaho stuff - outdoorsy, skiing, rafting, hiking, travel. Sorry, Mary, he does not have a dog. His community work takes him to Longfellow Elementary School where he and Jeff Dinwiddie spend a lot of time. By the way, he's a close friend of Greg Mortenson ("Three Cups of Tea"). He's been to Pakistan to help Greg open new schools.

Denise Pimental, our Youth Exchange student from Brazil, has arrived and is getting settled with her first host family. We are all encouraged to invite Denise to join our families in our various adventures. Please remember: in order to have Denise join you, you must complete a Background Check with the State Department. You'll find the form on our website under "Club documents". Even if you don't have any plans yet, its best to get this out of the way so its not a problem. (Note" her name is pronounced oddly - maybe Brazilian? Maybe Portugese? I can't write the phonetic example here!)
Thank you for choosing to volunteer at The Idaho Foodbank and helping us to provide food to Idaho families this holiday season! The IdahoFoodbank has a volunteer registration system that requires each volunteer to register for the event. This allows us to get the waivers and emergency contact information for each of the volunteers as well as accurately report volunteer numbers and hours donated for your organization. I have made a reservation for BizPrint.com for 8 volunteers on Tuesday, November 29, 2016 from 7PM – 9PM. I have instructions for your group below that they can use to sign up under this reservation using your group’s Join Code.
Our Fellowship Committee has introduced "Fellowship 101" as a way to get to know each other better. First, put your name/card into the fishbowl. Then, draw another card and during the next week, invite that person to lunch or coffee. Then, put the card in the other bowl with your name on it. Each week, a card will be drawn and that person wins a $15 Starbucks card! Last week's winner was Will Ellsworth.
Roger reports that our 3rd grade dictionaries have arrived and are ready to be delivered. He'll need volunteers to help distribute them to the third grades. Let him know if you can help. There are a total of 336 books!
