Our guest this week will be Emily Walton, a member of the Board of Trustees of the College of Western Idaho. She'll give us a glimpse into the future of this fast growing institution.
Who: Boise Metro Club members, family members, prospective club members, District Governor, Assistance District Governor, and sponsored Exchanged Students Food provided, no host/cash bar
Our club was well represented at the event at Zoo Boise last Wednesday. We haven't heard yet if Sunrise Rotary met their fundraising goal. Zoo Director Steve Burns gave a wonderful talk about how ZooBoise has redefined what it means to be a zoo; that their "conservation fee" experiment has become a model for zoos around the world. He also explained the connection between ZooBoise and the Gorongoza National Park.
On Saturday, May 28th, the Idaho Senior Games will be hosting its first annual 5k run/walk for folks over 50 (and anybody else who wants to join in the fun!) The course will be around the Julia Davis Park greenbelt area. While there is no fee, the event is to support the Idaho Alzheimers group.
Our club has agreed to provide a hot dog and bean picnic lunch for the participants after they complete the walk. The location is the Ag Pavilion across from the Zoo. Our team is Alan Bosch, Dave Wilson, Mary Reiman and Rick Holscher. We're going to figure on 150 people. Please contact John Biggs if you want to help out! We need some folks to heat up the beans in crockpots!
There are three plastic storage tubs on the Rotary cart. If you are looking for something, check out the one on the bottom shelf. This is generally how they are organized:
Tub #1 (Clear no lid) Books for guest speakers in a plastic Barnes and Noble handle bag
Tub #2 (blue with a lid) – the stuff we need for each Tuesday meeting, sign-up sheets, the bell, song books, misc things being passed out (volunteer t-shirts), pins, etc.
Tub #3 (clear with white lid) has the clubs organizational stuff: club flags for exchanges, membership packets, stickers for magazines, ABCs of Rotary, a camera (from 1902 maybe) and misc. other club stuff
Raffle Tickets have been distributed and have already started to come back in, thanks! Congratulations to Jeff Larsen - he's first one in our club to turn in his tickets and check for $100 for selling his book of 10 tickets. If you have sold your tickets, please return them to me THIS Tuesday!
Do you ever wonder why you are given the opportunity to purchase/sell raffle tickets as part of the district's annual conference?
Our guests last week were Jake, invitee unknown (!) and Jennifer Hazard, a 20+ year Rotarian from Hailey looking for a new club.........don't forget to bring stuff to add to our "mystery basket" to be auctioned off at Sun Valley Conference (books, golf gear, gift cards, coffee, wine, etc).....speaking of which, this Tuesday is the final day to turn in your raffle tickets.............If you are going to District Conference, be sure to wear your Greenbelt T-Shirt!!.............Jeff is still wanting us to bring in magazines for his Terry Reilly clinics - its been great but don't stop!................ Mary R. has adopted a 105lb chocolate lab she found on the trail.........She went to St. Louis to see the national Robotics finals - our team is ranked top ten in the world..........Eric enjoyed a dental show in Europe...........Bill Cafferty showed no mercy as Sargent at Arms last week - he conned us out of $49.00...we're experimenting with the new bulletin designer from Club Runner.............congrats to Carrie Westergard - she has joined the Board of the Ronald McDonald House...way to go!
The date for the May Board meeting has been changed to Wednesday May 25th 4:30 PM. Location TBD.
