Leave it as it is. You cannot improve on it. The ages have been at work on it, and man can only mar it. What you can do is to keep it for your children, your children’s children, and for all who come after you, as the one sight which every American should see.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!
We are looking forward to a year that's a lot better than 2020!!
HOLIDAY RECOLLECTIONS
Our meeting last week was full of childhood reminisces about Christmases past and family traditions just beginning.

After John's modern interpretation of Jungle Bells, and Allan's admission that he's having a hard time accepting that Rylee has a boy friend (nice guy, tho), we went around the room to hear each person's stories.

Justin says his daughter watches Christmas movies all year long.....Will, the eldest of 9, told about "drop it and run" and his family's famous Cherry Roll......Dave is continuing the family tradition of  a "Crab Boil"...which reminded him of the original Joe's Crabshack on Tybee Island in Georgia....Carrie is making sure everyone in the family has matching pajamas for Christmas.....and watching Its a Wonderful Life, her favorite movie....for Charles its all about the music.......Cornelia is very "low key" this week, unlike her usual demeanor.......Allan's family will enjoy traditional Clam Chowder and Oyster Stew (NOT!)........Dave remembers pajamas and skiing at Schweitzer......Schubin is enjoying the fact that his parents just moved to Boise....but they are in potty training mode for both a new kitten AND and a puppy...the old dog is not happy.....John relived carrying lit candles home from the candlelight service without burning anyone's hair in the car......Hank is learning Brazilian holiday traditions, but always remembers the glug.....Charlene grew up in the warm south and always remembers people from up north sending sweaters for gifts....gee, thanks!.....Jeff is recalling Christmas stockings stuffed with toothpaste and oranges.....he and Charlene are learning Danish Hygge, a practice of mindfulness.....

A BEAVER IS CHEWING ON OUR PARK!
A beaver is chewing on a tree at our Greenbelt Park! Is he planning to take down that big tree? The authorities have been notified.
GBRF MAKES DONTATIONS $30,000

Not all families can afford a computer or access to the internet.  Not all families have homes. True statements at any time but 2020 has made these two statements relevant to even more families.

The Treasure Valley YMCA offers a School Day Plus program giving school-age children a safe place to go with access to computers and the internet, adults to aid the students in their studies, and everything else they need to excel.  To ensure more students can benefit from this program, GBRF just awarded the YMCA $20,000.  Read more about this inspiring program HERE

Every Family. Every Person. A Home.  CATCH usually has a waiting list of 150 families needing housing.  This year the waiting list is 250 families.  Most are single mothers with children.  GBRF awarded CATCH $10,000 to help end homelessness for these struggling families.  Read more about this program HERE

These are just two of the worthy programs that GBRF has helped in 2020.  Many more need funding.  Your donations, through December 2020, will provide grant dollars to help those in need in Ada County in Spring of 2021.  If every Rotary Member donates just $25.00, GBRF will have $10,000 more to give in 2021.  Make a one-time donation, or make it a monthly donation HERE

BOISE BICYCLE PROJECT VOLUNTEERS
On the day before Christmas, I volunteered with BBP to deliver bikes to families who were not able to pick them up at the designated time. Linda and I delivered two bikes to two families in Nampa and three bikes to a Swahili speaking family here in Boise. It was fun to see the excited kids! Interestingly, they have so many bikes that they've take over the abandoned Pizza Hut down the street! There are lots of volunteer opportunities at BBP. Check it out! https://www.boisebicycleproject.org/
END OF YEAR FOUNDATION GIVING
Just a reminder that there's only a few days left of 2020 and your last chance to make a donation to the Rotary Foundation! Our club gets credit for the donations you make and we always look great compared the other clubs in the district. Go here to make donation:  https://my.rotary.org/en/donate
