Our speaker this week will be Liz Hall, President of the Greater Boise Rotary Foundation ("GBRF").  Liz is a member of the Eagle/Garden City Rotary Club. The Foundation, formed in 1984, offers $40,000 in grants to Ada County non-profits each year. GBRF provided $7,000 last year toward our Greenbelt Project. Each Ada County Rotary club is represented on the Foundation's Board of Directors. Bret Vaterlaus will be President next year. Liz will outline the Foundation's goals and explain how it is funded.

Lobster Ghost on-line auction will happen October 14-23. This is the Lobster Fest that Sunrise club has done for several years. They moved to this model because of COVID-19, but now all District Rotary clubs get to participate! Our club has already signed up. Our job is to provide auction items by  Sept 20th, and for any item that our club provides, we get 50% of the price. If one of our members buys the item, we get 100% of the proceeds! How cool is that! This should be a great fundraiser. You can read more details at

Our board voted to allocate up to $2000 for items, and here's where it's going. The item is following by the name of the Rotarian coordinating it.

Private Tour for 6 at the Old Idaho Penitentiary –Enjoy a private tour of this haunted attraction with an overnight stay at Springhill Suites, brunch at The Trolley, and passes to the Idaho Botanical -- Carrie

Stand-Up Paddle Board–Hydrus Board Tech -- John Schubin

Cruiser-Style Bicycle–Reed Bicycle Shop with locations in Boise and Eagle will honor exchanges -- Jeff

Healthy Cupcake Kit– Recipe book, ingredients, cupcake pan, and decorating supplies all packaged in a mixing bowl --  Cornelia

Kids Dress-Up Trunk –A suitcase full of dress-up clothes and accessories for hours of make-believe fun -- Cornelia

Pet Adoption Fees –Up to $250, from a reputable shelter -- Mary

And there are two excellent ideas that just need some help making them happen. Our club will pick up expenses, but will you volunteer to coordinate? Just reach out to Cornelia at if you can help with one of these:

Bestseller Basket–A collection of top fiction novels for youth and adults. Enjoy these 5 easy-reads and a duplicate set will be placed in the ‘Little Free Library’ at Rotary Park on the Greenbelt in your honor. ($100) John B.

CruiseAmericaRV Rental–$250 voucher for an RV rental, a travel atlas, and the road trip of a lifetime ($275)

We have officially adopted a .8 mile section of the Greenbelt, from Joe's Crabshack/Garden City Line to the diversion dam at Ann Morrison Park. Here's what we have agreed to do:
  • Preferably once a month, police the path, pick up trash and report anything untoward we see, like new graffiti or homeless camps. (note: this is NOT a River Cleanup, its just picking up litter along the greenbelt!)
  • Create a team to wrap preferred trees with chicken wire to protect them from beavers
  • Answer a call for volunteers as a city crew removes invasive plant species
This will also give us the opportunity to inspect our Rotary Park and make sure it always looks great!
We'll schedule our cleanup for the first Saturday of each month. On Sept 5th we'll meet in Joe's Crabshack parking lot at 11:00. Once we've walked down and back, we can  amble over to Telaya (Shiloh's idea!) for a food truck lunch. Bring gloves and a garbage bag.
We now have a Venmo account we can use to send money to our club such as dues, happy dollars and whatever else comes along. It works just like PayPal. Download the Venmo app to your phone and set up your account. Please only use a checking account or debit card to make payments. If you use a credit card, we get whacked with a 3% fee. The club's name is @Boise-Metro. Also be sure to describe what the payment is for so our Treasurer can account for it.
