Brick sales are off to a slow start! There are lots of people out there who have heard our story and are really excited about the project and keep saying they're going to buy a brick, but they haven't done it yet! If we don't keep after them, they'll forget and never get around to it. Among my own circle of friends, there are ten people who have committed to buy a brick - eventually. I'm about to get obnoxious! (By the way, there are many folks in our Rotary family who haven't stepped up yet, too! Are you one?) And don't forget to hit up your business acquaintances. A tip - we don't care which size brick you sell - they all have the same margin. So, a business can participate for just 50 bucks. Pass out those brochures, keep a supply in your car! Or direct people to our club website. Tell people there's a limited supply, orders must be in by May 31st! And don't forget your social media contacts! Click here to place your order!
Our program this week will be Dr. Janet Callahan, Chair of the Micron School of Material Science and Engineering at BSU. She was one of the founding faculty members of the new department in 2004. She has earned her advanced degrees from University of Connecticut and she has an interest in STEM learning and teaching. She has overseen phenomenal growth in the programs at the University.
The long awaited article appeared in Sunday's Explore Section of the Statesman. Many thanks to Anna Webb for conveying the message. And, we loved the photos! This publicity should help a lot in our brick sales. If you look at the article on the Statesman website, you'll see a short video Anna took while we were at the site.
(Note: 20 more brick orders came in Sunday afternoon! And, we have sold a $2500 bench!)
The Annual BOISE BIKE WEEK starts next Saturday. There's a wide variety of bike related events going on all week. Click here for the complete schedule. Think about some of these as an opportunity to promote our bricks. For example, at the Flicks at 7:00PM on Tuesday, they're showing bike movies. Maybe we could get permission to hand out brochures? Or, on the 18th there's something called "Bike Talks" at the Village Co-Op. Maybe we could make a brief presentation? Maybe you know who's organizing these events. The week ends with a bike parade.
Its that time of year! District 5400's annual raffle tickets sales supports a variety of youth programs like Youth Exchange and RYLA. A portion will come back to the clubs to help defray the cost of attendance. We are each asked to sell 10 tickets. Please make checks payable to Boise Metro Rotary so we can send one check to District Conference. The winner receives a $4500 AAA Travel credit. Whomever sells the winning ticket also gets $4500! So, if you buy all ten yourself, your chances improve dramatically! Tickets are due MAY 10TH!! ( I have been assured that we have been given the "good" tickets). There are also a number of lesser prizes!
