THIS WEEK - BRAD BROOKS - WILDERNESS SOCIETY
Brad Brooks currently works for The Wilderness Society (TWS), where he is the Deputy Director of Idaho in addition to running the National Public Lands campaign for TWS.  Through his 10 years at The Wilderness Society, Brad has worked on a number of public lands policy issues both locally and nationally.  Brad grew up in Meridian and has a bachelor’s degree from the College of Idaho where he studied environmental economics.  He also has an M.B.A.

Brad was also a founder of the Idaho Trails Association, a non-profit dedicated to trail and public land stewardship, and he co-created the Environmental Leadership Program at the College of Idaho.  Brad is currently on the board of the American Alpine Club, an international climbing organization.

Brad is married to Angela Brooks, and they have a 1 year old daughter and a German Shorthair dog.  In his spare time Brad is an avid rock climber, hunter, angler and mountain biker.

ROSE SALE UPON US!
Plans are being finalized for our annual Rose Sale - the biggest fund raiser of the year! We'll start taking orders next week and expect deliveries in late October. Stay tuned for more details. (Note: you should have all received an email from Janice today with more details).
OPEN WORLD UPDATE
Cornelia has been hard at work setting up the schedule for Open World.  Our guests from Tomsk, Siberia, will arrive on Friday, October 7th. Most of the team is connected to Siberian State Medical University. Their interests are in entrepreneurial business and adaptive technologies for people with disabilities. A sampling of the planned activities might be: Trailhead, Idaho Assistive Technologies, Bike rides and wineries, Birds of Prey, City Club of Boise, Disability forum, 3D Printing, Mike Simpson's Office, BSU, Micron tours, capitol tours, JUMP, ARC, geothermal tours, and the list goes on!

News! The folks at the US State Department who are overseeing this program reviewed our proposed schedule of activities and were "rendered speechless" it was so awesome!
GARDEN CITY POLINATOR HABITAT
As you will recall, we have been supporting the Garden City Garden Club's Polinator Project behind the GC City Hall/Library. To see a great view of what they plan, check out this video clip (amazing technology!)

BRET V. PUSHING THE LIMITS! OFFERS CHALLENGE
Our macho-man Bret Vaterlaus is embarking on quite the adventure later this month. He's going to ride his mountainbike for about 400 miles over a 3 or 4 day period staring Sept 14th in the rugged wilderness of central Idaho. Its the third annual event called the "Smoke and Fire 400".  "There is no registration fee, no support and no prize money"  https://smokenfire420.wordpress.com/

Here's the challenge:

"I will match whatever is donated to Polio Plus through the Rotary Foundation.  A donation of $20.00 will be matched by me bringing it to $40.00 and it is my understanding that these are then matched my the Gates Foundation bringing it to $80.00.  If club members will make a donation directly on their accounts and inform me at my email bvaterlaus@wbmclean.com I will make a matching contribution.  I have already received $350.00 in pledges."

Let's do this!!

Mark your calendar: the Mayor's office has let us know that the official ribbon cutting ceremony for the new Greenbelt section will be at noon on Sept 16th. Details to be announced. We have offered to participate. Maybe join the Mayor on a bike ride?

Update: I have just heard From Toby Norton at Parks and Rec. He should have two ideas for us to look at before the 16th!
