THIS WEEK - SERVICE AT FOOD BANK
The Idaho Foodbank
Our first Tuesday service project will be a two hour stint at the Idaho Food Bank warehouse, from 12-2.  If you can only stay for one hour, no problem.
We do require everyone to sign up individually, please have each person follow this link
http://boisemetrorotary.idahofoodbank.volunteerhub.com/ down to the SIGN UP button and follow the instructions.
I have also attached a minor waiver for anyone volunteering between the ages of 8-18.
Our facility is located at 3630 E. Commercial Court, Meridian 83642.
FROM THE PRESIDENT'S DESK
This past Saturday, Janet Hasson, Jeff Larsen, Cornelia Sprung and Scott Swan joined 50 other Rotary Members from around the Big West in attending the Food Security Zone Institute. Lots of great learning for all.
Did you know that 1/3 of all the food we produce is wasted? Did you know as many as 1 in 8 children in Idaho are Food Insecure?
We heard about the key role that Foodbanks play to combat both of these alarming statistics. And we also learned about everyday things we can do as individuals and as a club to be a part of the solution.

I am pleased to report that our 1st Tuesday Service Project at the Idaho Foodbank is full for August 2nd. I am also pleased to report that Janet Hasson is already delivering our leftover club lunch food to City of Light Home for Women & Children so it won’t be wasted.  We are People of Action!

Key Future Highlights:
August 2 – 1st Tuesday Service will be at The Idaho Foodbank from 12-2pm. All volunteer spots are full!

D. G. JANICE VISITS
District Governor Janice Fulkerson made her official Club Visit to Metro last week. (A DGs goal is to visit all the 44 clubs by the end of December). She outlined her goals and plans for this Rotary year, including a new Public Image Campaign. (Cornelia will be District Chair). She introduced us to Jennifer Jones, from Canada, the incoming R. I. President (first woman). She also explained the derivation of the new RI Logo, honoring Native Americans.  We should look forward to a fun filled service year!

PRESTIGIOUS AWARDS
Two of our members were presented with prestigious awards last week. Janice presented Richard Fulkerson with his Paul Harris Plus One. Jim Hogge, our District Foundation Chair, awarded Scott Swan a Major Door Award, celebrating his ongoing contributions to the Rotary Foundation. (Scott reminded us that he got there by signing up for Rotary Direct years ago!)
WILLOW LANE SERVICE OP
Join Rotarians from around the valley for a work party at Willow Lane's Wetland Peace Preserve. Tuesday, August 9th at 5:30PM. Our work parties come every month to weed and water the sapplings we had lovingly planted last year, to make sure they get off to  good start! Check here for more information and to sign up!
