The Rotary theme for the month is Economic Development and Vocational Service. Our speaker this week will be Clark Krause. Executive Director of the Boise Valley Economic Partnership. This group promotes Boise and the valley as a great place to locate/expand your business, including workforce development, site location assistance, and more. Watch this video - it will make you want to move here! (You might have to look at the online version to see it?)
The third annual Kick Out Polio took place on Saturday. Four teams played to a run-off championship. The goal was to raise $2k for Polio Plus. The weather was perfect!! Thanks To Centennial Rotary for organizing the event.
Some of the District 5400 Leadership Team attended Rotary Zone 26/27 Institute in Spokane last month. Our combined zones are also known as the “Big West” zone because it’s made up of all of Western US and Canada. It was a fun conference, with great speakers and peer-to-peer breakout sessions. Zone Institute is also when districts who made exceptional achievements in the previous year are celebrated. And our own District 5400 was part of that! Of the 30 districts in the Big West zone, there were 3 categories in which District 5400 was honored:
PUBLIC IMAGE: Youth Engagement
The Youth Eco Film Contest organized last year by the Environmental Sustainability Action Team was the top project to engage youth with the Rotary brand and message. Well done, ESAT! The team is already planning to repeat the project in this Rotary year.
MEMBERSHIP: Existing Member Retention
District 5400 was in first place in Zone 27 for retaining members during the 2023-24 Rotary year. Nice work, everyone—now the next step is to grow!
MEMBERSHIP: Inductees into the Membership Society
David Riffe--the first inductee in our district!--now has Bronze status after having sponsored a total of 25 new Rotarians during his Rotary career. Congratulations, David. What’s your secret?
Are you promoting Rotary to your community? Are you inviting a friend or colleague to your club? With your support and effort, we can do it again this year!
Our field trip to Dennis Technical Center last week was awesome! It was another one of those "I had no idea" revelations. Made us all want to go back to school! They even have an ambulance simulator for the EMT class that shakes, rattles and rolls! Many thanks to Principal Jeff Roberts who was very gracious!
We desperately need help identifying two more host families for THIS year who live in the Timberline school district. Unless we find one within a few weeks, there's a chance Ken may have return home for lack of housing options. As it looks, its unlikely that Timberline will have another exchange student next year, so if you know anyone who would like this valuable experience, now is the time to take the opportunity! I need the Club's help I've been through most of my good contacts. The host family does not need to be a Rotarian. Ken would be a normal member of the family and the family's responsibility is to provide room and board. Please reach out to a few contacts personally to gauge some interest. I'm happy to make calls or share some of the Rotary brochures on hosting, too. Please let me know who would consider being a candidate. Hosting is for only 3 months. We need to find one family to host from late November to around March, then April to June.
