Our guest this week will be Kenzi Buckley, the Rotary Youth Exchange student we sent to Spain last year. Its always fun to hear about our kids' experiences!
This week we introduce our newest member, REESE BARKER. Reese was born in Boise, attended High School at McCall/Donnelly and earned advance degrees at U of I and the University of Portland. She has been an RN in the cancer unit at St. Luke's for 12 years. Some of us know her husband, Michael, who was a member of our club years ago and is currently a member of Centennial. They have three children, Adelaide, Dublin and Cardiff, sometimes referred to as "Reeses Pieces". Reese's hobbies include gardening, hiking, travel and reading (she reads 50 books a year!) Welcome, Reese!!

A group of us gathered at Redbuilt last Friday afternoon to get the dictionaries ready for delivery. We put a Rotary sticker inside each of the 225 books. If you have volunteered to make the delivery to our third graders, they're ready to go!
Last Friday we had our official Shark Pond presentations. Our panel of judges heard "pitches" from Miles Kububa in Zambia and Emmanuel Asare Osei in Ghana. Miles is a young fellow wanting to invest in a Shwarma maker for his fast food business. Emmanuel wants to invest in a motortricycle to transport the plastic he collects from his agents.
Our panel voted to approve Emmanuel's proposal and award him a grant of $1,000 which will be repaid over 24 months at 0%. His business is eye-opening! Since there is little potable water in his city of 8 million, EVERYTHING somes in plastic bottles; which are summarily tossed aside. There is no attempt at "recycling" as we know it. Emmanuel pays "agents" to collect the plastic and then sells these huge bags (actually mosquito nets) to three companies who will then crush/shred/melt the plastic for use in building materials, fabric, etc. So his mission is much larger than just plastic bottles. He's providing jobs for an underserved population; elderly women, disabled folks who act as "agents".
As we head into Thanksgiving and the Christmas season, it's time once again for us to think of youth in the JEMfriends transitional homes in our gift giving.
If you see something you wish to purchase, please put your name on that row so we don't accidentally double up. On the list, you'll see gifts in all sizes, from $10 to $200.
If going to stores doesn't thrill you, just buy online and ship it to my attention at RedBuilt, 200 E. Mallard Drive, Boise 83706. Several items have links supplied.
We received the wishlist early this year, so we have a whole month to get things purchased. As in past years, we'll wrap the gifts, and sign some group cards, at our holiday fellowship event (date TBD).
Our song this week will be a Bosch family tradition..........our Rotary minute was about a Massachusetts club funding a series of pollinator gardens.....Schubin's son was home from school in B.C....they don't have Thanksgiving..............D5400 will sponsor a team for the Annual Polar Bear Challenge on January 11th at Lucky Peak...who among us is brave enough?.......its just a block party on the beach......It was interesting to hear DG Steve Gage last week tell about his career in fire fighting......best wishes to Roger's Benji moving into a new home.....
