Leave it as it is. You cannot improve on it. The ages have been at work on it, and man can only mar it. What you can do is to keep it for your children, your children’s children, and for all who come after you, as the one sight which every American should see.

THIS WEEK - CLUB ASSEMBLY
This week will be strictly business. Among the topic to be discussed will be our leadership team for the next Rotary year and the proposed new by-laws.
NEW CLUB BY-LAWS FOR YOUR APPROVAL!
Its time for our club to update its Constitution and By-Laws. Dave Gott, Jeff Larsen and I have been working on this for several months. Our current governance document was originally adopted way back in 2003, with some minor modifications in 2014. In the meantime, Rotary International has revised the Standard Club Constitution (which are required to adopt) and a template for our by-laws. The by-laws is a document that sets forth the way the club operates. We can modify the template to fit the unique way Metro operates. It outlines such things as quorum requirements, membership procedures, committee structure, officer and director responsibilities, annual elections, financial accountability, and more. Some items are highlighted just to attract your attention.

The proposed document can be found by clicking here. Please review it carefully and let us know if you have any questions. We'll discuss it briefly at an upcoming meeting and then vote on it. The Board of Directors has approved it, but the membership must also approve it.

FEBRUARY SERVICE PROJECT  - COMMUNITY SCHOOL FOOD PANTRY
We will be assembling snack bags for our Community Schools (including Garfield Elementary) to distribute to Homeless and Low Income Students. This snack bag assembly project can be done in the comfort of your own home. For those who want to do the assembly project with fellow Rotarians, we will be gathering at the conference room in Will Ellsworth’s Northwestern Mutual office on the 5th Floor of the Boise Plaza 1111 West Jefferson Street. Join us starting at 12 Noon on February 9th. Please wear a mask and respect social distancing protocols in the building. This will also be the place you can drop off the finished bags that you assembled at home.

What is a “snack bag”? This is a convenient grab bag that Community School Coordinators can give to students to supplement their nutritional needs. It consists of 5-6 snack items and a bottle of water. The snack items are a 50%/50% blend of protein oriented and non-protein-oriented items. They are contained in a gallon-size Ziploc bag which the students can reuse for other purposes. (A portion of these students are homeless. So the snack items need to be ready to eat without preparation.)

JOIN DISTRICT ZOOM SOCIAL HOUR           JAN 29TH
The first ever virtual D5400 New Year’s Eve happy hour was such a success that an hour just wasn’t long enough…so we kept at it for over two hours! We not only enjoyed the company of D5400 Rotarians, we were also joined by one of our favorite Rotarians visiting from Guatemala, Curt Bowen, and also by an out-of-stater named Owen Standley who shared his quest to hike the Appalachian Trail to raise funds for Polio Plus (more info on that can be found at https://www.hikeforpolio.org/ ).
Because this event was such a hit, the D5400 Membership Team has decided to have a district-wide social “hour” every month for all of 2021! These events will be held on the last Friday of the month beginning January 29th. This event is open to every single Rotarian in District 5400.

WILLOW LANE PEACE PRESERVE
This just in: the official name of the new park project at Willow Lane (next to the River by the Willow Lane Softball Complex on the Greenbelt) will be ROTARY WETLAND PEACE PRESERVE. The committee has been meeting regularly for the last few months to begin finalizing the concept for the new park. It will feature a one mile loop trail along the river and through a wetland area. Amenities will include benches, interpretive panels, peace poles and much more. We should begin to get a handle on the total cost fairly soon.
HAVE A FAVORITE CHARITY?
As you know, in lieu of having lunch every week, we've been providing financial support to a variety of local charities. If you have a favorite that deserves our support, please feel free to suggest it to club leadership.
D.C. NOT FAR OFF!
As you know, our District Governor has planned for our May District Conference to be back at Sun Valley this year. Its not too soon to be thinking about what our club might want to contribute to the Silent Auction fundraiser. Think of something unusual, bizarre, unforgettable, unique......
NEW LINK TO ZOOM
Did you ever fumble around looking for the link to our Zoom meetings? We have a new way that's really easy: go to our club website. On the left hand side under "Meeting Information" click on the icon for "Join Us Online". You'll go right in! Easy Peasy!
