This week we will welcome former District Governor Ben Nelson who will provide a "Rotary 101", including an overview of all the aspects of the Rotary Foundation. Nelson, a member of the Burley Rotary Club, is the Senior VP for Mortgage Lending at DL Evans Bank. He is a multiple Paul Harris Fellow and is a member of the Paul Harris Society. Ben was our District Governor for 2020-2021.
November is Foundation Month! And with that we're rolling out a special month-long promotion for those of you not already using Rotary Direct(https://my.rotary.org/en/rotary-direct) to make giving to the Annual Fund and/or Polio Plus easy and automatic. If you sign up for Rotary Direct before the end of November, and set up a $100 donation, both the club and the district will match your donation in points. Yes, a double match! So you'll be almost a third of the way to a Paul Harris Fellowship award. You can do it in a single donation or donate $25 quarterly. Simply forward your receipt to cornelia.sprung@rotary5400.org to request your match. This double match is only available during Rotary Foundation Month, so sign up and automate your giving today!
Did you know? Since our club's inception 40 years ago, our members have contributed $256,000 to the Rotary Foundation!

John Milburn introduced us to his girlfriend Lou, who plays pickle ball 5 times a week. Past speakers Diane Garvey, Jodi Peterson-Stigers and Alexis Flores were there. The food at The Highlander is delicious... have you heard of Smothered Artichokes? If anyone has a lead for a warehouse space that Book It Forward could use for 1 week in the middle of April, please speak up. They need a new site for the Annual Children's Book Drive.
The new facility for Interfaith Sanctuary is nearing completion. We have a tour scheduled for November 25. Between now and then, we want to collect winter stuff for the residents, including gloves, hats, scarves, etc. We'll deliver to them at our visit.
As you will recall, our first experience with Shark Pond was to interview two young men from Africa who had good ideas. We selected Emmanuel who has been keeping us informed thought the magic of WhatsApp. His project was to employ underserved women to collect plastic from the roads and sidewalks for recycling. Now he's grown his little business into collecting cardboard, and now he's building a small plant for his shredding machine. Then he can made blocks for building materials, among other things. WOW! We have been impressed! Very industrial young felllow! Our initial grant to him was $1,000 toward the purchase of a motorcycle truck to haul plastic. He will now start repaying that grant to a local Rotary club who will, in turn, make another grant to a local entrepreneur.
Now, we'll have the opportunity for Round #2 of the Shark Pond. The program was founded and is managed by Ben Davidson from the Pocatello Rotary Club. Officially, its called Entrapov. We need 4 Rotarians to volunteer for the selection committee. Contact Anne if you're interested.
Our Judging Panel is set: John, John, Roger, Tim and Tracy
