Make sure a few of them are dirt

Remember back in April we heard from Jess Hawley who told about his long time coordination of the Helping High program at Frank Church High School? We were all impressed with his passion for helping these kids. Now, the program is being expanded to include other schools in the valley. Jennifer Henderson and Stacy Roth from Boise Community Schools will tell us about it!!
Do you have a cabin or vacation rental? The ability to host a horseback riding or white-water rafting adventure? How about access to a private sightseeing flight? Are you willing to bake Cookies for a Year, or lead a mountain biking clinic in the foothills? JEMfriends will hold their annual fundraiser on September 25th and they are seeking donated “experiences” such as these. In past years, they have raised their entire $60k operating budget in this fundraiser, supporting JEMyouth participating in their transition program, which includes a life skills program and mentoring. Through these programs, local youth leaving the foster care system can find the stability, freedom, and resources needed to succeed.
All donations to JEMfriends are tax deductible and help achieve the JEMfriends vision: JEMfriends believes that each person aging out of foster care should have the opportunity to transition in an environment that understands their adversities and supports them as they become loving adults. If you have any ideas for a donated experience, please let Cornelia know at
Seven of Metro's best painters joined together last week to help out at the Leap Housing project on Shields Ave. Interesting project!  Eight 4 bedroom units made from shipping containers. They're beautiful! Each unit gets a storage shed and a couple of raised bed vegetable garden boxes. We painted two storage sheds and four garden boxes. These units rent for about $850 per moth, utilities included. It amazing what they can do with shipping containers!
For our July 28th meeting, we're going to to try a "Hybrid" meeting style. We'll meet in person in room 200 of the Boise Centre on the Grove. Our program that day will be Ben Nelson, our new District Governor. Lunch will be provided. We'll also have a video feed available for those who chose to stay at home.  Watch for the Zoom link!
