PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
At our August board meeting, we worked through several topics that require immediate actions and adjustments from our board and members.

Three key updates:
  1. Temporary Lunch Location Update
  2. Masking-up for Lunch Meetings
  3. Hybrid Meetings Suspended
At the August board meeting, we discussed our temporary meeting location Life’s Kitchen versus our ability to return to the Stonehouse or another downtown venue in the near future. The Stonehouse is not able to commit at this time for either September or October. We also have not yet been able to secure a different downtown venue (such as The Riverside). We are beginning to expand our search beyond the Stonehouse and the Riverside but are unlikely to have an alternative venue in the short term. We also don’t yet know the implications that the resurgence of COVID and the Delta Variant will have on meeting venues. Given all this, we anticipate continuing at Life’s Kitchen at least through the month of October as we look for downtown venues and track the evolution of COVID into fall.

Speaking of the Delta Variant, the board decided to require masks during our luncheons beginning August 17th to keep each other safe. As stewards of fighting disease (https://www.rotary.org/en/our-causes/fighting-disease) we feel this is a necessary requirement to continue to meet in-person. I have asked the staff at Life’s Kitchen to adjust the seating arrangement to accommodate social distancing. Masks may be removed while you are eating/drinking at your table. We all hope this requirement is a temporary necessity.

We also evaluated the continuation of offering virtual attendees to participate remotely. After a month of trying to enable this meeting model at our temporary location at Life’s Kitchen, our conclusion is that the Remote Participant experience is quite poor. Additionally, trying to provide and manage the Zoom experience as well as the live meeting has been a drain on both the President and the President Elect. This has become a significant distraction to the overall meeting and hospitality to our speaker and guests. Finally, we have had very few people participating virtually. As such, we are planning to take a hiatus from offering the Zoom Meeting option through the end of October. If COVID requires the club to pivot to an all-virtual format again, we will resume using Zoom to bring us together.

We appreciate that our temporary location is not ideally located for some of our members. And that not offering a virtual alternative will make your regular participation more challenging. We hope that our new emphasis on monthly fellowship gatherings (3rd Wednesday in the evening – and outside) and our twice monthly service projects (1st Tuesday Lunch and 1st Saturday Morning Greenbelt Clean-up – also outside) will give opportunities to gather with your fellow club members.

Our club’s tenacity and perseverance will pull us through these challenging times. Thank you for all you to do as Boise Metro Rotarians and let’s keep on keeping on.

THIS WEEK - CRYPTO CRRENCY PART 2
This week Mr. Clay Space will join us again to complete his discussion about Bitcoin and Crypto Currencies.

For anyone interested in refreshing their memory on the topic of Bitcoin, please see the following link. This video introduced us to the fundamentals of currency, and this week's second presentation on the topic will provide a deeper dive.

FELLOWSHIP AT FIVE THIS WEDNESDAY
Please join Boise Metro Rotary for fun fellowship on Wednesday, August 18th at Payette Brewing Company (River and 12th) starting at 5pm. You can find us at a picnic table outside on the lawn. If you're new to our club, look for someone wearing the Rotary emblem.

Remember, we meet every third Wednesday for Fellowship at the same time and location. No agenda. No formal meeting. Just fun, laughter, and always interesting conversations.
SPOTLIGHT ON ALLAN BOSCH
Our Member Spotlight this month was on Allan Bosch, one of our longest tenured club members. Born in the Geographic Center of the US (do you know where that is?), he has quite an impressive resume, all related to the businesses of law and non-profits. He and Pixie have hosted many Rotary Exchange Students over the years. A dedicated Vandal, although he supports all Idaho's sports teams, we bet you didn't know that (1) he had hair once and (2) he almost became a Priest.
JEFF RECEIVES PH+2
Congratulations to Jeff Larsen who was awarded his third Paul Harris Fellowship recognition. Its called "PH+2". Every time a Rotarian contributes $1,000 to the Rotary Foundation he/she is awarded a Paul Harris Fellow. Keep up the great work, Jeff!
WE EARN EVERYDAY LEADERSHIP AWARD
The Idaho Association of School Administrators (IASA) selected Rotary to be Honored for its 2021 Leadership for Public Education Award. Bob Rainville from Boise Sunrise and Jeff Larsen from Boise Metro were on hand to receive the award at the IASA annual summer conference on August 5, 2021. The award recognized the Everyday Leadership Program our two clubs sponsor in a collaboration with the Boise School District, the Treasure Valley YMCA, and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southwest Idaho. The Everyday Leadership Program targets at-risk 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students at Title I Schools in the Boise School District to participate in extracurricular leadership skill-building.

DISTRICT LEADERSHIP SESSIONS
Are you a leader in your club? If you answered ‘No’ you may be both right and wrong. We believe every Rotarian is a leader you just might not be in a defined club leadership role. Every club member is invited to attend our leadership summits and learn more about being a leader in Rotary.

DG Russel Johnson asked the district Learning & Development Team to develop sessions that could include the other current as well as future club leaders. The L&D Team has put together a series of half day summits:

8/28 NEXT WETLANDS PEACE PRESERVE WATERING
The Wetland Peace Preserve "watering godmothers" have been quietly keeping things growing since your last visit. Please bring your club members to see how our little babies are doing.  Some, that appeared to die after the June heat, are actually sprouting after several deep waterings.   BUT we need to weed.  (sounds like a store name in Oregon.)  so....
