Our next meeting will be July 10. Our speaker will be Ad county Sheriff Steve Bartlett.
Stephen Bartlett joined the Ada County Sheriff’s Office in Boise, Idaho, in 2003 and advanced through the ranks until he was appointed Ada County Sheriff in 2015.
Sheriff Bartlett is responsible for the largest law enforcement agency in the State of Idaho with about 650 employees and an over $60 million budget.
Brian McCoy has invited us to a Fellowship Event on Tuesday, July 10th at Hops and Bottles, a new beer garage at Grove and 15th. If you bring some hygiene supplies for ANA, Brian will buy your beer. You'll have a choice of 500 beers, he says! Brian wants to show this place off since he built it! See you about 5:30-6:00PM! Oh, and you can bring your dog! (See The Scene this week)
Earlier this spring Rotarians from all over planted seedlings in various places around the area. In order to thrive they need us to water them from time to time (you know it hardly ever rains here in the summer). Last week Mary , Ellen, Dan and Darrell Manning from Eagle/Garden City watered the seedlings at Hyatt Hidden Lakes, using 40 pound/ 5 gal water packs.
Brian and Jeff are studying the plans and specs and checking out the monument. Meanwhile, we're working with the City Arts and History Department to craft the text for our interpretive signs. One has to accept that people will only spend 10 seconds reading a sign so you have to choose your words very carefully! These photos are examples of the latest style the city want to use. You can find these on the new Broadway Bridge. Its the porcelain enamel finish that makes them expensive, and long lasting. We will decide between single panel or double panel.
Boise Metro is one of the few Singing Clubs left in the Rotary World (used to be they all were!). However, we have all come to realize that our song book is very outdated, leaving few songs that we can actually sing with confidence. Notice how Chuck picks the same few every week? Back in the old days, a club would have a member who would play the piano that was over in the corner of the meeting room. A few weeks ago, Michela had us try singing a song we didn't know, a capella. Ouch! We have a new musical adventure for you to try! The duo of Cahill and John have searched their music notebooks and come up with a bunch of songs we should all know, to be accompanied by guitar!! We tried it last week with a rousing rendition of Will the Circle Be Unbroken. This week, we'll try Blowin' In The Wind.
Congratulation to Scott Swan, our immediate Past President, who has been named an Assistant Governor for District 5400. He'll watch over about 5 clubs in the valley including ours......Best Wishes to Rick H. who had his second wedding ceremony last week.....Rotary has "Fine Masters", Lions have "Tail Twisters"............Tim Vincent, our speaker last week, is District Governor for Lions District 39W which is about the same size as our D5400, with 40 clubs. Don't know 'bout you, but I was impressed at all the things Lions clubs do! They are a lot more than Vision and glasses............. Roger went kokanee fishing last week at Anderson Ranch...was only 72 short of his limit.........Ally, I have your crock pot..............no bulletin next week, your editor is back East..........
