On December 10th, we'll elect our club officers for the next Rotary year, starting July 1st. We'll elect President, President-Elect, Secretary, Treasurer and 5 Directors. If you're interesting in a leadership position in our club, make yourself heard!
US Marine Corp Reserve's Toys For Tots in Boise is partnering with Astegos.org Community Warehouse and they’re looking for volunteers to assist with sorting, organizing, and packing toy donations that will be distributed to children in need. Boise Metro Rotary signed up for a group volunteer shift:
Sunday, December 15, from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm
There is no age restriction on volunteering so everyone can get involved, but participants under 18 require a parent or appropriate adult to supervise.
We have been receiving reports from our new friend in Ghana, Emmanuel, showing progress on his recycling business. With our grant he has purchased a trike-cycle pickup truck. His photos show mountains of plastic bottles and cardboard. (FYI - did you happen to see the report from the United Nations this week that the body was unable to finalize a treaty about limiting the use of plastic?) Emmanuel employes disadvantaged folks as agents to collect plastic and cardboard. The plastic gets shredded and some is made into fabric used to make backpacks.
A group of us gathered at Redbuilt last Friday afternoon to get the dictionaries ready for delivery. We put a Rotary sticker inside each of the 225 books. If you have volunteered to make the delivery to our third graders, they're ready to go!
