THIS WEEK - WORLD POLIO DAY
Bob Rodgers, Rotary Club of Sebastopol, World Community Service Chair

World Polio Day is officially Oct. 24th. We are SO CLOSE, and today, Bob Rodgers will share his personal journey with polio. We'll also get updated about the state of polio in the world. Let's keep our foot on the gas and make this the only second virus to be ELIMINATED from our planet!

THE GHOST IS ALIVE!
The Lobster Ghost auction is now live online. Have you checked it out yet? Our club has 16 registered bidders, but only 1 non-member bidding with our club. It runs through October 25 so you still have time to sign up more friends and family. Remember, that’s how we make money. 237 bidders for 200 items is not as competitive as it could be. (Just make sure they aren’t interested in the 9 bids that I’m currently winning… 😉) Our Spooky Tour of the Old Idaho Pen is also up to $225 already!

And while you’re browsing through the items, don’t forget about the virtual finale on October 25. You’ll receive a personal invitation this week. It will be our opportunity to celebrate our fundraising success! Cheers!

Your Fundraising Committee,
Cornelia Sprung              Scott Swan
Tyson Wise                      Will Ellsworth
Jeff Larsen                       Charlene Ellen

EVERYDAY LEADERSHIP UPDATE
Everyday Leadership is a collaborative effort created to provide Treasure Valley low-income 5th and 6th grade youth with the skills and self-confidence they will need to graduate from high school and attain post-high school educations.   (140 students participated in the 2019/20 school year).

GREENBELT - IN CASE YOU MISSED IT
If you missed the "Grand Unveiling" of Rotary Park on the Greenbelt, here's the story that was shown on TV2 that evening:

WE HELPED BOISE BIKE PROJECT
Carrie, Charlene, Mary and Cornelia inspected and cut off worn or ripped hand grips so they can be replaced with new ones—an easy way to spruce up a kids bike. Some will even get new grips with sparkly streamers! <Insert memories of your own childhood bike here.> Scott Swan seemed to have experience in patching tires. Cahill “chopped” a couple bikes for spare parts. And Jeff—who clearly knows his way around a bicycle—directed traffic for 3 or 4 other Rotarians. And there was a loooooot of time spent pumping up tires!   😉  Nice job organizing this, Tyson! Looks like 11 Rotarians were in on the action!
JOIN POLIO PLUS SOCIETY
As we look forward to World Polio Day on October 24th, consider joining the District 5400 Polio Plus Society.

It’s easy to become a member. All you need to do is open a new email, paste in the
text below and send to District PolioPlus Chair Mary Reiman mary.reiman@outlook.com

I pledge to donate a minimum of $100 each year until the world is
certified polio free by the World Health Organization. Please enroll
me in the District 5400 PolioPlus Society.

The Gates Foundation is currently matching donations 2 to 1 making this an even better
opportunity, as well as receiving Paul Harris Credit for your donation. If you donate
before World Polio Day (October 24th, 2020), Zone 26/27 will DOUBLE your recognition
points.

The easiest way to donate is to log in at https://my.rotary.org then click DONATE:
● The “easy” way to continue as a PolioPlus Society member is by utilizing the
monthly payment option. Click the Polio Fund, and select “Recurring Donation”.
For frequency choose “monthly” and for amount choose “other” and enter $10 in
the “enter other amount” box.
● If you are already donating $100 or more per year to PolioPlus, then join the
Society and get the recognition you have earned.

Help Rotarians reach every last child and achieve our vision of a polio free world.
District 5400 accepted the challenge to have 50 new PolioPlus Society members by Oct
24th.
