THIS WEEK - RECLAIM IDAHO
Our program this week will be Luke Mayville, Co-Founder of Reclaim Idaho. This is a grassroots organization with over 2,000 volunteers in over 25 Idaho counties. We believe in the power of Idahoans, coming together, to tackle tough problems facing the state.
PAST R.I. PRES RISELEY SPEAKS TO US
 
On Thursday, February 20, 2020, Ian Riseley, Rotary International President for 2017 - 18, will present LIVE from Australia to Rotary District 5400 via Zoom! The Rotary clubs of Boise, Buhl, Eagle-Garden City, Emmett, Hailey, and Rexburg will air the presentation. If you wish to attend and do not belong to these clubs, please register before Wednesday, February 12 at Rotary 5400, Earth Stewardship, Events.
 
In 2017 - 18, President Riseley presided over 1.2 million Rotarians in more than 33,000 clubs in 200 plus countries. His key request is that we plant one tree per Rotarian. Theme speech
 
He has served on the boards of many private and public schools and other charitable organizations. He has received many honors including the AusAID Peacebuilder Award from the Australian government and the Regional Service Award for a Polio -Free World from The Rotary Foundation.

It was announced this week by District leadership that former Metro President Janice Fulkerson has been named "District Governor Nominee Designate". This means she's on track to be D.G. for the Rotary year 2022-23, following Russ Johnson from Idaho Falls. Congratulations Janice! Watch this video:
 
 
POLIO UPDATE

The Final Three Polio Endemic Countries:

  • Pakistan - Five new 2019 & three 2020 Polio cases reported this week. Seven  Polio cases reported in 2020.  The most recent cases were from the Punjab, Khyber Pkhtunkhwa, Sindh, & Balochistan Provinces with an onset of paralysis on 1/11/20.  Pakistan reported 144 Wild Polio cases in 2019.  No new Polio-Positive Environmental Samples were reported this week in Pakistan.  
  • Afghanistan - No new Polio 2019 cases reported this past week. No Polio cases reported in 2020.  The most recent case was from the Herat Province with an onset of paralysis on 12/07/19. Afghanistan reported twenty-nine Wild Polio cases in 2019. No Polio-Positive Environmental Samples were reported this week in Afghanistan.  
  •  Nigeria - No Wild Polio cases have been reported in 2017, 2018, or 2019.   The most recent Polio case was reported on 8/20/16.  Nigeria is to be congratulated on over Three Years without a Wild Polio case! 
FISHING DERBY COMING TOGETHER
The Fishing Derby Committee has announced that the event will be held on April 18th at the Park Center Pond. There is a lot of work to do - sponsors, food, judges, prizes, etc. Reach out to the committee if you can help. 
EVERYDAY LEADERSHIP GRANT APPROVED
At least week's Board meeting our club approved a continuation of our support for Everyday Leadership. We will again join with Sunrise Rotary and make application for a Rotary Global Grant. Our commitment will be $5,000.
NAMPA ROTARY WINE & BE KIND
Nampa Rotary Club will hold its annual fund raiser called "Wine, Dine and Be Kind" on February 27 at the Warbird Air Museum. The event benefits Nampa  youth and education non-profits. The Gala begins with a Silent Auction and cocktails at 5:30 PM, moving into the Live Auction and ending the evening with an elegant dinner, catered by Brick 29.  Tickets are $50.

Here's a photo of two of Bret's grand kids, the newest Paul Harris Fellows!.......Last week we learned about Electronic Neural Networks and Neuromorphic Engineering. If you need further explanation, ask Charles........one of our guests last week was Marianne Barker, past District Governor. She's moving from Buhl to Boise.......it was really cold last Tuesday!.....Noa is enjoying skiing...our happy dollars to thank her host Mom was $210.......23 people order T-shirts...if you missed out, it might not be too late ...contact Dave Wilson.......
