Next week is Navy Week in Boise! A contingent of Navy seamen and women will be town, doing a bunch of things at the State Fair. The Navy band and its components will be all over town during the week, too! Our guest this week will be Commander Lancaster, Commanding Officer of the USS Boise, a Los Angeles class nuclear submarine. He has a presentation called "the Navy the Country Needs".
Be sure to check out the Greenbelt park.....its stunning! The ground work has been completed and the bricks looks fantastic! The second brick order will go in next week. Our contractor will be installing the benches, bike repair stand, and garbage can. We've got the little free library ready to go. We've started work on the interpretive signs and the DAR ladies are raising the rest of the funds to move their monument. We hope to have everything done by late fall. Watch for details of a planting party on September 14th and a social event shortly thereafter.
One of our guests last week was Lauren Smyzer, representing the new Treasure Valley Rotaract Club. For the uninitiated, Rotaract is a club for young professionals aged 18-30. There are three clubs in Idaho - Boise, Pocatello and College of Idaho. They are an energetic group, always looking for service projects to tackle. Check out their facebook page here.
We will be watering our Hulls Gulch seedlings this Sat, Aug 24 at 8 am. Thank you for faithfully rounding up volunteers. Doesn't it make you happy to see those little guys all watered, weeded and thriving?!!! Truly, we do amazing work together.
I've attached a map where we meet & picture from two weeks ago. There are no triple digits in the forecast, so it should be a nice day.
AUGUST is membership month for Rotary. We are always looking to grow our membership. Inviting someone to have lunch with you at Rotary is a great way to expose someone to Rotary. Just ask someone to come have lunch and attend a meeting. Over the years I have recruited at least a dozen members to Rotary just by inviting someone to lunch. It’s that easy, but that’s the magic tip.
Please join us on Friday, September 27th, 6:00 pm for a banquet and live auction fundraiser at The Grove Hotel (Downtown, Boise) as we make a huge difference for youth who have aged out of foster care. Come hear the inspiring stories of our resilient JEMfriends youth and JEMfriends vision to continue to bring support to Idaho's youth aged-out of foster care. Funds raised at the event go directly to the operation of the JEMfriends programs allowing us to continue to provide housing, life skills classes, mentorship, and community for our JEMfriends youth.
