THIS WEEK - WASSMUTH CENTER
Logo
Our guest this week will be Christine Bruce- Bennion, Executive Director of the Wassmuth Center for Human Rights.

"The Wassmuth Center for Human Rights was founded in 1996 for the purpose of constructing a tribute to human rights.  That vision became a reality when the Idaho Anne Frank Human Rights Memorial opened to the public in 2002.  The Memorial is a world-class educational park inspired by Anne Frank’s faith in humanity.  A living, vibrant interactive classroom for Idaho’s school children, it inspires people of all ages to contemplate the moral implications of their actions and the scope of their civic responsibilities. The Wassmuth Center provides programs and resources designed to bring the Memorial’s message into classrooms and communities."
A WEEKEND OF GALAS!
Rotarians were well represented at TWO Galas this weekend! Friday evening at the Riverside was the annual Lobsterfest, featuring more than 400 people with open checkbooks! Rumor has it that they raised more than $300,000!! Saturday evening, back at the Riverside, was the annual JEMfriends Gala. A bunch of generous folks there as well! Boise sure has generous people!!

OPEN WORLD UPDATE
Our delegates from Indonesia arrived in Boise on Friday afternoon, after spending a couple of days in D.C. There are five "Delegates", a Coordinator who is employed by the US Embassy on Jakarta, and two contract interpreters (i.e. they aren't really part of the group). The Delegates are all lawyers and judges in the their District Court system. They have been selected to participate in the Open World Program by the judges on the Supreme Court. They are "the best of the best"! Some of them have advanced degrees in Environmental Law. But, in spite of their impressive credentials, they're just "regular folks". We are enjoying getting to know them and showing them around our beautiful city. We spent most of the day on Saturday at the Peregrine Center / Birds of Prey. Monday's schedule is full of contacts at the City of Meridian court system.

JEMfriends PROJECT APPROVED
We have supported various efforts of JEMfriends over the years. This is an organization that supports young people who have "aged out" of the foster care system. At last week's board meeting, we approved a $5,000 grant to provide paint, carpet and labor to refresh one their rental houses. Plan on joining the work team the week of November 13. More details to follow.

Note: I met Liberty at the house this week to check it out. Its a pretty simple project. Looks like one day for two experienced painters. One bedroom and a hallway. Date to be determined. Is there an experienced painter that wants to join in ?
