Club Assembly this week - among the important stuff on the agenda are election of officers for the Rotary year starting July 1st and the induction of TWO new members, Richard and Amy.

Todd Fischer, from Boise Downtown, and Chair of the District 5400 Foundation committee, visited our club last week to present us with an award honoring our outstanding contributions. We were #2 in the District this year for per capita contributions ($354). Since our club was formed in 1985 our members have contributed $187,000!! We have 3 Major Donors, 4 Bequest Society members, and 17 of us are contributing through Rotary Direct.

Gary  Eller, our guest last week, gave a fascinating presentation about Idaho songs from early history. He gave examples representing four "transformational" periods - gold, the railroad, irrigation and timber. Thanks to Cahill for arranging Gary's visit!

After considering several alternatives for a new venue for our weekly meetings, the Board has approved the recommendation of our committee to move over to the Towne Place Suites, starting in January. Of the several places considered, this one seems to "check all the boxes". Its located just off Capital, across from BSU, across from Elmers. Thanks to Jeff, Charlene, and Charles for their work on this challenge!

 

We are seeing a lot of beaver activity along the river, and are going to be making a concerted effort to get trees wrapped with chicken wire this winter, to protect them from the beavers. This is a great time to get this done, with the vegetation died back for the winter.

 

Beginning the first week of December, we will be hosting a series of tree wrapping work parties on most Thursday's, from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m., through February. We will tackle a different section of the river corridor each week. Wire, tools, and training will be provided. Specific meeting locations and other details will be sent to volunteers the day before each event.

Jeff reports that his booster laid him low.....our recent program about cloud seeding shows that it works...we had good snowfall earlier this week.........Scott let his Foundation contributions lapse while he was moving...that's why we're #2......mark your calendar - our monthly service project will be the FIRST Tuesday of each month.....congrats to Hank's daughter who is graduating from nursing school......Todd Fischer made it! Last summer, he rode his bike from Seattle to Bar Harbor to raise money for Polio Plus......no meeting on December 28th.........we'll cleanup our Greenbelt section on New Years' Day  - good way to clear your New Year's Eve cobwebs!
