This week, we'll visit Pacific Steel and Recycling at 5120 Emerald St. This is one of those businesses you know nothing about! It started as a family business trading hides and furs in Great Falls, Mt. in the 1880s. Now, there are 46 branch facilites all over the Northwest offering a variety of custom fabricated steel products and extensive recycling services. Its a 100% employee owned company. EVERYONE MUST WEAR CLOSED TOED SHOES. Panera lunches will be available. Please let Mary know your coming!

 

Last Thursday five of our club members joined 175 other people at the Flicks to watch the move "Join or Die", after a social hour. It was great! It was based on Robert Putnam's 2001 book "Bowling Alone, The Collapse and Revival of American Community" which explored the resaons that "social groups" have been declining in membership for decades and how to fix it. The title comes from a "discovery" that people still bowl, they just don't join clubs. This was a great recruiting event for our District Rotary Clubs, too. They said about half of the attendees were not Rotarians. Many thanks to our Mary Reiman for "discovering" this film and suggesting that we all see it.

Boise Downtown Rotary Club

The final results are in! Our Golf Scramble netted us a sweet profit of $10,615.23!!!  Good Job everyone!..........Our trip to Boise Grocery Outlet last week was very interesting. All their stores are "owner-operators" and you can only own one. There are several hundred around the country. We got a great expanation of the business from the owners........wine tasting, too!..........Mary is working on new, updated name badges.....our RYE student, Ken, arrived uneventfully from Taiwan.......Cornelia is recruiting for the Hot Air Balloon Team.....I really enjoyed the Olympics!
