THIS WEEK - DEALING WITH GRIEF - Karen Midlo

Karen’s husband Kenny died suddenly, and she knows that without the love and support of the senior population she worked with, she would not have been able to heal as quickly as she did. She decided that she would spend the rest of her life being in service to others, especially around death and dying, as a way of giving back to those who supported and listened to her.

Karen has an extensive background with over 20+ years elder care, including dementia care, hospice, mental health and other elder health issues. She is a passionate advocate for seniors and their families.

Karen is a trained End-of-Life Doula and a David Kessler Certified Grief Educator. She works for Life Changes Elder Care Consulting.  Karen really wants to help people have difficult conversations around the kitchen table vs the hospital bed. Her favorite saying is “Hope is not a plan!”

SHARK POND #2
As you will recall, our first experience with Shark Pond was to interview two young men from Africa who had good ideas. We selected Emmanuel who has been keeping us informed thought the magic of WhatsApp. His project was to employ underserved women to collect plastic from the roads and sidewalks for recycling. Now he's grown his little business into collecting cardboard, and now he's building a small plant for his shredding machine. Then he can made blocks for building materials, among other things. WOW! We have been impressed! Very industrial young felllow! Our initial grant to him was $1,000 toward the purchase of a motorcycle truck to haul plastic. He will now start repaying that grant to a local Rotary club who will, in turn, make another grant to a local entrepreneur.

Now, we'll have the opportunity for Round #2 of the Shark Pond. The program was founded and is managed by Ben Davidson from the Pocatello Rotary Club. Officially, its called Entrapov. We need 4 Rotarians to volunteer for the selection committee.  Contact Anne if you're interested.

FOURTH QUARTER SOCIAL 10/29
MISCELLANY AND MINUTIA
The lunch last week was excellent! Some kind of creamed gravy with mushrooms over mashed spuds and roasted chicken.......Dave G. won thrid place in the Chili Cook-off......our Rotary minute was about a mental health program in Mumbai.....the Garfield "Splash" swim program has already completed it first class! Volunteers are needed for the "finals".......thanks to Cynthia Gibson for the explanation of the Open Spaces Levy on the ballot next month.....technology bit us again;  Cornelia was not able to dazzle us with our successes....Dictionaries have been ordered. Volunteers needed for delivery. Speaking of which, the Word of the Day was "Oxymoron"......here's an example: Trump says he "authorized covert action"...............
