THIS WEEK - NATURAL HAZARD COMMUNICATION
Carson McPherson-Krutsky is a PhD student in the department of geosciences at Boise State University. Her research focuses on developing effective risk and natural hazard communication strategies as well as uncovering what motivates people to prepare. She is also the co-founder and community engagement coordinator for the Hazard & Climate Resilience Institute (HCRI) at Boise State. In her work with the HCRI, Carson is passionate about connecting researchers, practitioners, and community members to ensure that the science we do is useful and beneficial to communities who can use it. In her free time, she likes to backpack, rock climb, cook and spend time with friends and family.
GREENBELT "UNVEILED"!!!
A fine time was had Sunday afternoon at the Rotary Park on the Greenbelt. A gathering of more than 50 people heard John Biggs tell the history of the project and Marsi Woody, representing the DAR, re-dedicated their monument. The conclusion of the program featured unveiling the three interpretive signs.  THIS PROJECT IS NOW COMPLETE!!

BIKE SERVICE PROJECT OCT 13TH
Thanks to those who have communicated and committed to serving the BOISE BICYCLE PROJECT this month. Currently we have 5 people, it would be great if we could get that number to 10.

They are also looking for folks who can assemble bikes.  Here's a note from BBP:

"From the sound of it, BBP and the Rotary Club are a partnership destined to happen! Do you still have people who are interested in assembling new/used bikes? I only ask because we could always use the extra helping hands for bike maintenance too. Would you mind asking those who are interested in volunteering to set up a volunteer profile and sign up for the shift that Tuesday afternoon. This will help us track who's helping us out as well as providing them with more information about the shift. I've attached the https://boisebicycleproject.volunteerlocal.com/volunteer/?id=35769

JOIN POLIO PLUS SOCIETY
As we look forward to World Polio Day on October 24th, consider joining the District 5400 Polio Plus Society.

It’s easy to become a member. All you need to do is open a new email, paste in the
text below and send to District PolioPlus Chair Mary Reiman mary.reiman@outlook.com

I pledge to donate a minimum of $100 each year until the world is
certified polio free by the World Health Organization. Please enroll
me in the District 5400 PolioPlus Society.

The Gates Foundation is currently matching donations 2 to 1 making this an even better
opportunity, as well as receiving Paul Harris Credit for your donation. If you donate
before World Polio Day (October 24th, 2020), Zone 26/27 will DOUBLE your recognition
points.

The easiest way to donate is to log in at https://my.rotary.org then click DONATE:
● The “easy” way to continue as a PolioPlus Society member is by utilizing the
monthly payment option. Click the Polio Fund, and select “Recurring Donation”.
For frequency choose “monthly” and for amount choose “other” and enter $10 in
the “enter other amount” box.
● If you are already donating $100 or more per year to PolioPlus, then join the
Society and get the recognition you have earned.

Help Rotarians reach every last child and achieve our vision of a polio free world.
District 5400 accepted the challenge to have 50 new PolioPlus Society members by Oct
24th.
GREENBELT QUIZ
The fist person to tell me where this little monument is located on the Greenbelt will receive points toward their Polio Plus account!
LOBSTER AUCTION UPDATE
We did it! We have 14 items live on the Lobster Ghost auction site!
This is amazing and will be sure to raise some serious cash for our club. Thanks so much to everyone who helped get our club into the game!

A couple of the items—Fall Yard Cleanup and Sweets for the Sweet—you will continue to hear about, since they will be fulfilled by us as a club. If you want to help rake a yard or bake some cookies, please be sure Rick Holscher or Cornelia Sprung know about it.

The next step is for you to register yourself for the auction. It takes all of 30 seconds, and will allow you to bid on these items plus about 100 more—the selection is truly fantastic. Please register right now, while you’re thinking of it. If you register before the auction goes live on Oct 14, you’ll also be entered in a drawing for a $100 Amazon gift card. Here’s the link: https://lobsterghost.afrogs.org
