Happy Father’s Day! Did you know that Paul Harris, the beloved founder of Rotary, did not have any children of his own? Yet think for a moment of all the children’s lives he must have impacted through his life of service and through his work in Rotary. We can be fathers in different ways. Whether you are a biological father or a father figure to people in your world…we celebrate you today.
June 20th Jana Wolf, Community Engagement Coordinator with Idaho Foodbank. Food insecurity is a real and growing issue in our community. According to Feeding America, Ada County has over 40,000 residents who are food insecure, over 9% of our population. From warehouses in Boise, Lewiston and Pocatello, The Idaho Foodbank distributed over 160 million lbs. of free food to Idaho families through a network of more than 200 community-based organizations. Come learn what we can do as a club to help.

Thank you Boise Metro Clubmembers for your time, talent and treasure in support of our First Annual Golf Scramble. Through your generous participation on and off the golf course, we raised over $12,000 to benefit our Youth and Young Adult Services and Programs in our community.
We are already putting the funds raised to work. Just one example, our board has expanded by 50% the number of high school youth that we are sending to our Idaho District RYLA Leadership Camp in July of this year. We look to staging this event again in May 2024.
Special thanks to our Golf Scramble Committee: Shiloh Shaver, David Thornton, Roger Brazier, Carrie Westergard, Janet Hasson, and Jeff Larsen.
JemFriends has become one of our favorite causes! Many thanks to Alexis Gonzales, their Community Engagement Coordinator, who brought us up to date at our meeting last week. The program, which Liberty Thompson started 15 years ago (can you believe it?) provides assistance to youth who are aging out of the Foster Care System. There are about 60-80 kids in Idaho each year who are faced with real challenges at their 18th birthday. JEMfriends currently houses 13 young people; their goal is reach 25. Thanks to the generosity of supporters they were able to buy their first home this year, which hosts 4 young women. Watch for a special interview segment on KTVB during the 4:00 news on June 26th. And, mark your calendar for October 14 for their annual Gala at the Riverside.
This is Jeff's last week for lunch!! Let's all show up and give him a hearty send off..........He wants to sing "When the Saints".....so we'll oblige......Dave Gott gave us a Rotary Minute about "geometry kits" for 275 girls in India......Scott managed our meeting last week - very low tech......Mary and Paul adopted a dog named Sam.....The Biggses enjoyed a great cruise to the Norway fjords......Kris Miller's oldest daughter got married last week.......Clayton reported on his first date without the new baby......we are sending three teens to RYLA - Trevor Swan, Ryan Compton and Kirby Miles......Know your Boise quiz: can anyone tell us about this statue in front of the Idaho Statehouse? It doesn't have a plaque, so we're curious.
