From Kristin Gnojewski, Volunteer Specialist, Boise Parks and Rec As the vegetation starts to die back, we tend to see an increase in the number of trees impacted by beaver. Please keep an eye out for freshly chewed trees, and let us know if you notice significant beaver activity. On Tuesdays throughout the winter months, we host a tree wrapping event (from 10 am to noon) aimed at tackling a different section of the Greenbelt or nearby park. These events are open to all volunteers. Reach out if you are interested in learning more. If your group is interested in scheduling a date to wrap trees throughout your section this winter, we are happy to provide training and materials. Additionally, if you happen to remove old wire that is restricting tree growth or is no longer functional, please neatly fold it and set it next to a trash can (not inside). This will help our Greenbelt crew dispose of the wire properly. If you are still interested in planting milkweed seeds, it is not too late! Packets of locally harvested milkweed seed are still available at the Parks Administration office (1104 W. Royal Blvd.) and can be planted until the ground freezes. If you would like to pick up some seeds, please let me know. Late fall offers many opportunities for new discoveries such as interesting fungi, bird nests, and colorful berries along the Greenbelt. I hope that you are able to get outdoors and find something new this month. |
