“There can be nothing in the world more beautiful than the Yosemite, the groves of the giant sequoias and redwoods, the Canyon of the Colorado, the Canyon of the Yellowstone, the Three Tetons; and our people should see to it that they are preserved for their children and their children’s children forever, with their majestic beauty all unmarred.”
We won't have our regular Zoom meeting on March 2nd. Instead, we're all invited to sit in on a special presentation called: Ian, Rotary and the Environment. YOU NEED TO REGISTER NOW! (See below)
2017-18 Rotary International President Ian Riseley (chair of The Rotary Foundation Environmental Issues Task Force) will share the stories and reasoning that inspired the Rotary Foundation Trustees and Rotary International Board of Directors to unanimously approve Rotary's New Area of Focus.
The annual District 5400 Grant Program will be opening for projects soon. There are five tiers of grants ranging from small ($500) which do not require a club match, up to $5,000 which do require the match. Projects must fit within the Rotary Avenues of Service. Applications are due by June 1st. For more details, click here: (This is last year's, but the 2021-22 program will be the same). Think about projects that our club undertakes that might be eligible for some financial assistance. In the previous two years, we have joined with Boise Sunrise to support Everyday Leadership.
Over the last school year, Everyday Leadership activities and expenditures have had to be adjusted to comply with COVID19 safety measures. In the fall semester, Everyday Leadership's classes and community service projects were cancelled. Fortunately, the Rotary Foundation allowed us to use the unused funds to assemble Home Learning Kits for low-income students attending the schools. The kits were designed by school teachers to include items that would facilitate virtual learning for students whose homes lacked these resources. In total, 1,250 students were using our Home Learning Kits this past fall.
As long as we're at it anyway, while we clean up our section of Greenbelt, join us to check out the Pollinator Garden. Since we'll be on site, it would be good for assess the area again and get familiar with the area we want to cover with happy vegetation. We can start formalizing our plan from their and have a formal meeting sometime in March. Let's meet at Joe's Crab Shack at 11:00 on Saturday for a springtime walk (Its supposed to be warmer by then!).
Your Fellowship Committee is planning on a family Greenbelt bike ride this spring. We'll map out a 15 miler, stopping at points of interest along the way, with details you never knew! And, yes, there will be wine involved! Look for a survey where you can indicate a favored date.

From Lisa Vetter: Hello, it's me again...and I'm back with more fun and adventures for all of my fellow D5400 Rotarians! Your D5400 Membership Team has put together a brand new program to help us all get a little more "Rotary Love" into our lives. In addition to the monthly virtual social hours (more info on the district calendar and district FaceBook page), we are now promoting what we are calling The Building Goodwill and Better Friendships Tour. And seriously, who couldn't use more of that in their life, right?
The goal is to build and strengthen our Rotary connections across our entire district. The concept is simple. Build goodwill and better friendships by exploring our vast Rotary community. It's that easy! This opportunity is open to any D5400 Rotarian who wishes to play with us.
