Our programs are designed to foster self-reliance and inspiration through healthy self-management in outdoor environments. Our staff mentor and support children and teens, and their families, in a safe, healthy and respectful environment. We provide educational camps and programs for youth with type 1 diabetes regardless of their ability to pay. https://hodia.org/
Boise Bicycle Project Update: They have the kids bikes…now they need your hands to help get them ready. No Experience Necessary…
This week: volunteer nights at the shop every day, Monday - Thursday, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. No need to sign up for these shifts, drop ins are perfectly welcome. All volunteers are welcomed regardless of experience. We will be working to refurbish the last of the bikes needed for Dec. 17, but will also work to add grips, stickers, baskets, bells, and other fun customizations to the bikes assigned to kids in order to match the pictures they drew of their dream bikes. Anyone unable to join in for the evenings is still invited to sign up for a volunteer shift in the shop during operating hours through the week or to help set up tents and bikes for the giveaway Friday at 11 a.m. or 3 p.m.
December is Rotary’s Disease Prevention and Treatment Month. Our December speakers focus on health issues. Type 1 Diabetes, also called Juvenile Diabetes because it typically strikes adolescents, has no cure. While it is somewhat rare, in the US alone, there are up to 200,000 cases per year. It can last for years or be lifelong. And there's currently no known way to prevent type 1 diabetes, but this is a very active area of research. Access to treatment and programs are important to help children live the best quality of life possible. On December 13th, Brittney Lucero will join us to share about HODIA and the Idaho Youth Programs for Children with Type 1 Diabetes.
Fellowship on December 14th @ 5:30pm at Smoky Mountain Pizzeria Grill in the Sage Room. Join us for holiday fellowship and JEM Friends Gift Wrapping.
