Guess what? We're moving our weekly meeting location back to the Stone House at the Ram. (709 E. Park Blvd) Long time members will recall that we met there before COVID closed everything down. Since then, we've been searching for a suitable place (Nothing against Smoky Mountain, but the Stone House is a better "look" for us). Lunch will be buffet style. The room is a good size and has all the technology we need, and the parking is much better.
OUR FIRST MEETING THERE WILL BE SEPTEMBER 3.
We've committed to trying it for six months then analyzing our experience.
Our speaker this week will be Mary Jane Fields, Adult and Family Literacy Eductor from The Learning Lab. Her job is to prepare students for their US Citizenship interview. Find out what's involved in gaining citizenship.
Our Club membership team will have an in-person meet and greet with a short presentation on Boise Metro Rotary, the history of Rotary, projects we are involved with and how to get involved. There will be several club members available to answer any questions. Light refreshments and beverages will be served. When: Monday, August 26th, 2024Where: CSHQA Downtown office (street parking is available in the surrounding blocks) 200 Broad Street Boise, Idaho 83702Time: 5:00-6:30pmPlease RSVP by Friday, August 23rd to Carrie Westergard, carriewest4@gmail.com

Doors open at 5:00, the events starts at 6:00. We need four couples to accept the invitation. Let Mary know if you want to attend.
In August, we have a very cool service opportunity! We will act as ground crew for hot air balloon pilots in the 2024 Scott Spencer Spirit of Boise Balloon Classic. Cornelia did it last year and it was a ton of fun. You can participate August 28, 29, or 30th. Follow this link for more information and to sign up!

The first area of focus for Rotary International is Promoting Peace. Rotary International has a long history of efforts to promote peace throughout the world. These efforts, both big and small, have resulted in some great achievements.
There are many layers to the concept of promoting peace. Peace is not just the absence of war or conflict. It is about the peace of knowing where the next meal is coming from, ending polio, where one is going to sleep, free from mental / medical or family issues.
I would invite your clubs to think about what you can do on Saturday, September 21, 2024, to let your community know about Rotary's commitment of promoting peace. It does not have to be a grand event but an effort to promote peace.
The event could be as simple as inviting other service clubs, churches, schools and others to join you in a Peace Walk. Providing a meal to the unhoused, supporting a mental health effort, collecting needed supplies for a shelter or a program for at risk youth. Promote your event locally through social and traditional media.
I am sure you members can think of a great 'pop-up' service project to promote peace in your community. Whatever your club does please let us know about your event so we can share the great service is providing.
Lots of guests last week! Among them was Marco Cedillo, a Rotarian from Mexico who was visiting Boise on business. His club of 35 members has some interesting traditions (stealing the bell?).....we also welcomed Past District Governor from Alaska, Gail Knepper.......our Rotary Minute was about Polio vax among nomads in Pakistan.....John Schubin reports that we're still looking for another Host Family for our RYE Student.......Cornelia did a great job running our meeting in Mary's absence......City Club of Boise has some very interesting programs on the calendar.........
