Shukran! That means ‘Thanks’ in Arabic. Boise Metro Rotarians have donated $446.10 towards this project. That has allowed Cornelia to complete almost all of the necessary purchases, after receiving gifts-in-kind from Amalgamated Sugar and PNW Farmers Cooperative, plus a $500 grant from the Albertsons Companies Foundation. The purchasing side has been handled, so now it’s on to deliveries!
There are 2 ways you can help deliver grocery bags to newly arrived Afghani families:
Pick up some pre-addressed, filled bags at Rotary next week. About 20 bags will be available.
Pick up some pre-addressed, filled bags at Cornelia’s home on April 23. The pickup window is 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. and the address is 3600 Trail Circle. Please let Cornelia know (email csprung@redbuilt.com or text 754-777-8642) if she should expect you on Saturday.
In either case, deliver the bags to the addresses provided no later than April 30 which marks the end of Ramadan in Eid al-Fitr, a 3-day celebration of feasting and gift giving. You may want to say “Ramadan Mubarak” or “Eid Mubarak” to recipients as you give them their gift, to wish them a blessed Ramadan/blessed Eid. And you may even hear them respond with “Shukran”.
Thursday, April 21st from 4-6:30pm, the United Way of Treasure Valley's Women United group will be collecting items for our Homeless Student Basic Needs Pantry. This pantry serves roughly 60 schools throughout the valley. It's our hope to supply school workers with basic needs items for students who may be experiencing food insecurity and barriers to hygiene during this difficult time in our nation's history.
How to participate! Please plan to put your items in the trunk of your car and enter our parking lot on the east side of the building. You'll be greeted and given instructions to pull around back where we will unload your vehicle. You will exit the parking lot on the west side of our building.
Items needed
Easy to eat items such as: nuts, seeds (pumpkin, sunflower), dried fruit, protein bars/snack bars/granola bars, tuna pouches (especially if they come with a utensil), crackers, peanut butter, cookies, beef jerky, popcorn (popped in an individual serving size bag), veggie straws, chips.
Girl Scouts of Silver Sage Council invites you and your friends to attend Glamp, a special ladies-only event August 19-21. This weekend at Camp Alice Pittenger will be packed full of fun activities, new traditions, lasting friendships and memories.
Spend the weekend getting pampered, enjoying delicious food, wine tasting and joining in on Girl Scout traditions. Relive your fond memories of camp while helping today’s girls make memories of their own.
The Boise East Rotary Club is collecting magazines in support of a school in Africa at which they recently sponsored a girls education project. It hinges on supporting girls during menstruation so they can remain in school with dignity. Which happens to be the cover story on the March issue of Rotarian magazine! They would like to collect copies of this magazine to send to the school. If you are finished reading your March 2022 issue, please bring it to Rotary next week.
Plans are nearly complete for this year's District Conference in beautiful Sun Valley, May 20-21. District leadership promises a great event, including the Saturday evening banquet (featuring Brian Shul, a fighter pilot with a fascinating story) and a variety of service projects on Saturday afternoon. The best advice is to stay at the Sun Valley Hotel so you don't miss any of the action! We have a block of rooms reserved - $179/ night. For more details check the District 5400 website. Early registration ends March 31. Every Rotarian should attend a District Conference. Our club will reimburse attendees $100, toward your bar bill. Cornelia will be creating a "giving tree" of gift cards for the silent auction.
All Rotarians are Encouraged to Support the - Disaster Relief Fund - for Ukraine - In response to the deepening humanitarian crisis in Ukraine, The Rotary Foundation has created an official channel for Rotary members around the world to contribute funds to support the relief efforts underway by Rotary Districts and has designated its Disaster Response Fund as the main avenue for contributions.
Contributions to the Disaster Relief Fund in support of Ukraine can be made online at Disaster Response Fund | My Rotary. All funds need to be received into the Disaster Response Fund by 30 April, 2022 in order to qualify for use in support of the Ukrainian relief efforts.
Now through 30 April, 2022, Rotary districts can transfer unallocated District Designated Funds (DDF) to support the Disaster Response Fund, directly supporting these Ukraine-specific humanitarian grants.
During this same period, other impacted Rotary districts that wish to offer support to refugees or other victims of the crisis in their district can apply for $25,000 grants from the Disaster Response Fund.
Now through 30 June, 2022, designated Rotary Districts that border Ukraine and the Rotary district in Ukraine may apply for grants of up to $50,000 each from the Disaster Response Fund. These expedited disaster response grants can be used to provide relief to refugees or other victims of the crisis including items such as water, food, shelter, medicine, and clothing.
