Our program this week will be Neva Geisler from the City Club of Boise. There are two very interesting luncheon Forums coming up at the Grove: (1) Aug 22 Destabilization of Health Care in Idaho and (2) Idaho's Open Primary and Ranked Choice Voting Initiative.
City Club of Boise brings people together to explore diverse issues and hear varied viewpoints. Through multiple formats and settings, we provide our community direct access to informed and engaging speakers, industry experts, and leaders. As a nonpartisan nonprofit, our work is made possible through the generous support of our members and sponsors.
The first area of focus for Rotary International is Promoting Peace. Rotary International has a long history of efforts to promote peace throughout the world. These efforts, both big and small, have resulted in some great achievements.
There are many layers to the concept of promoting peace. Peace is not just the absence of war or conflict. It is about the peace of knowing where the next meal is coming from, ending polio, where one is going to sleep, free from mental / medical or family issues.
I would invite your clubs to think about what you can do on Saturday, September 21, 2024, to let your community know about Rotary's commitment of promoting peace. It does not have to be a grand event but an effort to promote peace.
The event could be as simple as inviting other service clubs, churches, schools and others to join you in a Peace Walk. Providing a meal to the unhoused, supporting a mental health effort, collecting needed supplies for a shelter or a program for at risk youth. Promote your event locally through social and traditional media.
I am sure you members can think of a great 'pop-up' service project to promote peace in your community. Whatever your club does please let us know about your event so we can share the great service is providing.
Our Club membership team will have an in-person meet and greet with a short presentation on Boise Metro Rotary, the history of Rotary, projects we are involved with and how to get involved. There will be several club members available to answer any questions. Light refreshments and beverages will be served. When: Monday, August 26th, 2024Where: CSHQA Downtown office (street parking is available in the surrounding blocks) 200 Broad Street Boise, Idaho 83702Time: 5:00-6:30pmPlease RSVP by Friday, August 23rd to Carrie Westergard, carriewest4@gmail.com
Our field trip last week to Pacific Steel and Recycling was a real eye opener! Thanks to Mary for setting that up. We had about 15 people on the tour. Its a very complicated business! Biggest challenge? Lithium Batteries!
The Next August Wetland Peace Preserve service morning is on Saturday, August 24th from 8:00AM-10:00AM. If you members would be so kind to sign-up here https://forms.gle/bi1MR9Zewf7MvLec9 or text me (208) 789-8103, it is helpful for participants to sign-up to ensure we will have enough volunteers.
