Not less than two hours a day should be devoted to exercise and the weather should be little regarded. If the body be feeble, the mind will not be strong.
So far our club’s “tour” has already spanned a whopping 10,000 miles and we’re just getting started! We have visited Rotary clubs right here in Boise, further out in the Treasure Valley, in Walla Walla and as far away as Stockholm, Sweden. (Jeff and Charlene couldn’t contribute Happy Bucks in Swedish Kronor! LOL!) With virtual meetings, you can now “visit” parts of the world you’d normally never get to! Let’s keep it up. Visiting other clubs is a lot of fun and gives us good ideas to steal. 😉
I also have a better idea about some of the prize categories. Here’s where we should focus:
*Club with the most outgoing visits
*Club with the most incoming visits
*Clubs who collaborate with their meetings (example: all Tuesday noon clubs hold a joint meeting)
*Any club or individual who does service with another club
*Anyone who visits a club outside of D5400 (training purposes doesn't count)
It was great last week to hear our friend John Lodal, of Boise Sunrise RC, give us an update on Semilla Nueva's progress in Guatemala. As you know, the mission has been to improve the nutrition of Guatemalans. They tried adding things to their diets, like Pidgeon Pea, but found that the only thing these folks will eat is CORN. So, they've made better corn! They just learned that they've been the recipient of a Rotary Foundation Global Grant for $220,000. You can keep up to date on the progress here. Their motto is "Fighting Malnutrition With Better Corn".
Last weekend District 5400 hosted a virtual PETS Training, and true to Rotary form, we were on task and on time. While I don't have the historical experience of attending PETS in person in beautiful Burley, I found the training and networking very informative, getting down and dirty in the details of becoming a Rotary Club President. The leadership of the district has been very responsive, supportive, and encouraging throughout this process.
Details on how to actually purchase your tickets will be forthcoming!
It is district raffle time! Your chance to win!
We are having our annual triple grand prize raffle. Your club's President Elect (or another officer) has been mailed the tickets. Make sure your club is actively promoting the raffle. If your club isn't promoting the raffle, please email karlklokke@gmail.com.
If you are inactive Rotarian; hopefully you still have enough Rotary in your heart to support our raffle.
It is the only major fundraiser of the District. Every club and every Rotarian is obligated to participate. The purchase of least one $10 ticket (or a book 10), isn't too much to ask from every Rotarian.
Based on the guidance provided by both Rotary International and the District Leadership Council, the 2021 District Conference that was to be held at the Sun Valley Resort on May 21 – 22, 2021 will instead be held virtually on Friday, May 21, 2021.
This year's Virtual District Conference will include a fun-filled pre-show from 6:00 – 6:30 p.m. MST that you will not want to miss, with the actual District Conference being held from 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. MST.
