PROJECT AMIGO TRIP IN 2025?
Hello, friends! As the Service Chair for our club, I’m looking for ways to engage in fun and impactful community and international service. I’ve been exposed to Project Amigo a few times now—at district conference, at our club presentation, and again last month when Dora Zuniga was in Boise. (That’s when Bob and I signed up to sponsor a young man named Steven who wants to be an architect!)

Many Rotary clubs do service trips with Project Amigo, going to Colima for a week, to help the community and work with the youth. I believe Boise Sunrise does a service trip every other year. I think a trip would be successful with Boise Metro Rotary. We only need a minimum of 8 (or up to 24) people. Dora is strongly encouraging us to choose one of the two ESL weeks in July, either the week of 7/6 or 7/13.
JEM Friends  GALA SEPT 20
THE TABLE US FULL!
JEMFRIENDS is holding their annual Golden Gala on September 20th at JUMP. They are one of the organizations that we support through our golf tournament. So, we have purchased a table for 8 at the event for $1,000. Come hear inspirational stories from the youth who are participating, a live auction, raffle and more. Doors open at 5:00, the events starts at 6:00.  We need four couples to accept the invitation. Let Mary know if you want to attend.
THE STORY OF THE SHIRT
Last October our Rotary District hosted a group of judges from Indonesia as part of the Open World Program. John and Linda Biggs enjoyed hosting a fellow named Yoga for a week in their home. As a gift, Yoga presented them with two bolts of beautiful fabric. Linda is not a seamtress so they wondered what they would ever do with this beautiful fabric. Then, earlier this year our club had a presentation from Ben Davidson of the Pocatello Rotary Club about a new program called Entrapov ("Shark Tank") which provides micro-loans to wanna-be entrepreneurs in Ghana. As part of the presentation, we were introduced to Agnes, who had been awarded a grant of $1,000 to purchase a new sewing machine so she could open a tailor shop. So, to make a long story short, Ben took the Indonesian fabric to Agnes in Ghana with instructions to make two shirts. Agnes emailed John and Linda back and forth and within a few short weeks, the shirts were delivered to them in Boise.

It wasn't a totally happy ending, however. Linda's shirt fits perfectly, but John's shirt was too small (or he's too big). But it all turned out well, when last week John presented his shirt to Bret Vaterlaus, who's a lot smaller! It fits prefectly!

So its a great story to show the international connections that come from Rotary!
