Last October our Rotary District hosted a group of judges from Indonesia as part of the Open World Program. John and Linda Biggs enjoyed hosting a fellow named Yoga for a week in their home. As a gift, Yoga presented them with two bolts of beautiful fabric. Linda is not a seamtress so they wondered what they would ever do with this beautiful fabric. Then, earlier this year our club had a presentation from Ben Davidson of the Pocatello Rotary Club about a new program called Entrapov ("Shark Tank") which provides micro-loans to wanna-be entrepreneurs in Ghana. As part of the presentation, we were introduced to Agnes, who had been awarded a grant of $1,000 to purchase a new sewing machine so she could open a tailor shop. So, to make a long story short, Ben took the Indonesian fabric to Agnes in Ghana with instructions to make two shirts. Agnes emailed John and Linda back and forth and within a few short weeks, the shirts were delivered to them in Boise. It wasn't a totally happy ending, however. Linda's shirt fits perfectly, but John's shirt was too small (or he's too big). But it all turned out well, when last week John presented his shirt to Bret Vaterlaus, who's a lot smaller! It fits prefectly! So its a great story to show the international connections that come from Rotary! |
