THIS WEEK - OUR LARGEST PARK
Ann Morrison Park, one the city's oldest, largest and most visited parks, the 153-acre park features a distinctive spray fountain, bocce courts, disc golf course, horseshoe pits, outdoor gym, sand volleyball court, Together Treasure Valley Dog Island, playground, tennis courts, lighted softball diamonds, soccer, cricket and football fields and a reservable picnic shelter.

This week, Mark Daly, Bonnie Wilkerson, and Vickie Daly, who are steeped in the history of the park, will tell us about the "Come Play" campaign, an effort to renew this historic park.

(Did you know that the park has a Cricket pitch?)
FROM THE PRESIDENT
Milkweed!!  Last spring, Boise Mayor McLean signed the National Wildlife Federation's Mayor Monarch Pledge, publicly acknowledging Boise's commitment to taking action to support monarch butterflies (Idaho's State Insect) through habitat enhancement and public education.  A key component of habitat enhancement is providing milkweed, the sole food source for monarch caterpillars.  Adult female monarchs lay eggs on milkweed plants which the larvae consume as they grow. And Monarch habitat is a big RI theme, including current RI President Jennifer Jones. Rotary Monarch Story

Milkweed grows naturally along the Boise River, but there is plenty of space to supplement current populations through additional planting.  Boise Parks and Recreation has an abundance of locally collected milkweed seed that can be planted between now and late February.
On Saturday, February 4th at 11am, Boise Metro Rotary is going to help Boise enhance monarch habitat in our adopted greenbelt section by planting milkweed seeds! Come Join Us!

MAKE HYGIENE KITS - Feb 7th
February 7th Service Project: Hygiene Kits for Homeless Students  Noon at our regular meeting time.

We have approximately 3,500 homeless students in the Treasure Valley. These kids are still going to school, but do not have stable housing at night. They are often couch surfing, sleeping in cars, or sharing an apartment with multiple families. Can you imagine being in high school and not having access to a shower, toothbrush, or deodorant? Sadly, food stamps and EBT do not buy these types of products. Let's help kids feel confident and send them to school with dignity and commit to build 50 Hygiene Kits! United Way will be distributing the kids through our school teachers - the ones who know.

Please sign up on this sheet with what you commit to bring. Hygiene Kit Signup
