Your Fellowship Committee has put together a fun evening for our Pass the Gavel on Wednesday at the Cottonwood Grille. Festivities begin at 5:30 with Happy Hour (you might join us for that even though you're passing on the dinner). We have a good group signed up to enjoy the evening!
The Stonehouse is not yet ready to reopen for our weekly gatherings. As an alternative, starting July 13th through the end of August, we will meet at Life's Kitchen on 8574 W. Fairview - you remember, the old Marie Callender? They have the Hayden Beverage Banquet Room which sounds perfect! We've heard about Life's Kitchen before. Having our meetings there supports their mission!
Life’s Kitchen is a nonprofit social enterprise providing Opportunity Youth (aka at-risk youth) 16-24 years of age with wrap-around work and life skills. Through our Workforce Development, Food Service, Life Skills, and GED Training Program, trainees receive the valuable skills and resources they need to become independent, financially stable, and successful. https://www.lifeskitchen.org/
Roger Brazier has been a member of Boise Metro for longer than almost anybody. Back in the day, somehow, he ended up the curator of some archival materials from our club, which now reside in the basement of his office building. He's not exactly sure what's there, or if its of any real value, but it really needs a new home. Maybe we should form a committee to go through the stuff and see what we should keep. What treasures await!!
The Everyday Leadership Program has been selected as the 2021 IASA Leadership for Public Education (L.I.F.E.) Award. This recognition comes from the Idaho Association of School Administrators (IASA).
"The IASA is so grateful for the hard work of Rotary Clubs of Boise involved with this program. The dedication and diligence of you and your teams have been seen around the state and we would like to recognize you for your efforts. You have been selected as the 2021 IASA Leadership for Public Education (L.I.F.E.) Award recipients! Congratulations! You were nominated by Tim Lowe.
IASA will be hosting an awards luncheon during their summer conference on August 5th at the Boise Centre. All of Idaho’s award recipients will be honored during this time. It’s a chance for administrators to stand up and say ‘thank you’ to such a great team."
Bob Rainville from Boise Sunrise will be accepting this award on behalf of Boise Metro Rotary and Boise Sunrise. He notes that it has been an uplifting experience for us Rotarians to have this opportunity to work with dedicated principals, teachers, counselors and directors in the Boise School District and skilled instructors from the Treasure Valley YMCA in inspiring leadership behaviors and self-confidence in our low-income students.
It is an honor to receive a Rotary Global Grant which will allow me to pursue my passions within military psychiatry by attending the King's College of London's master program in War and Psychiatry. After completing my year at the King's College of London, I will come back stateside and work as an Army Officer. I hope after one-two years of experience within my job as an Adjunct General Officer, I am able to apply for medical school to get my PhD in Clinical Psychology and work within the Army's Behavioral Health Department, working not just directly with soldiers, but indirectly through creating military policy that is focused on psychological care post trauma.
I am extremely grateful and blessed by the opportunity Rotary has given me to begin my scholarly pursuits and am excited to become a member of Rotary International.
The Nampa Rotary Club is hosting our 31st Annual Golf for Hope tournament on Friday, August 27, at Ridgecrest Golf Club in Nampa. For more information about this event or to sign up a team, please go to the Golf For Hope website: https://www.golf4hope.org/ I've also attached a flyer with sponsorship information.
Mark your calendar for our July service project on 7/22. There is a lot to do so this one is all-hands-on-deck! The United Way is holding a literacy party and our Rotary club will be the volunteer labor to help pull it off. Watch for more details and a volunteer sign-up sheet soon. We will need Rotarians to do set-up, staff activity and game booths, read stories to kiddos, provide directions to kids and parents, and help with clean-up afterwards. Bring a friend or family member to help!
